Kathleen 'Kate' Dobrovolny, age 80, of Blue Rapids, passed away suddenly at her home on Sunday, December 11, 2016.

Kathleen Frances Sandmann was born October 24, 1936 to Frank John Sandmann and Margaret Cohorst Sandmann in Marysville, KS. She was the 6th of 7 children. She grew up on the family farm in Marysville and graduated from Marysville High School in 1954.

Kate lived in the Waterville and Blue Rapids area for several years and was a member of St. Monica~St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, the Alter Society, and was actively involved in various church activities. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, playing cards, attending family events and activities, and friendly conversations over a cup of coffee.

She is survived by six children: Sherrie (Rod) Beekman; Beatrice, Nebraska, Greg (Nancy) Burger; Fort Worth, Texas, Christie Burger; Wichita, Scott (Tresa) Burger; Sabetha, Dallas (Moriah) Dobrovolny; Waterville, and Darcy (Lori) Dobrovolny; Waterville, eighteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her surviving siblings include: Bill Sandmann; Marysville, Caroline Bruna; Marysville, Gus Sandmann; Blue Rapids, Rosie (Harold) Travelute; Hanover, JoAnn Nider; Washington,

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Marie Bruna.

Viewing will be from noon to 4:30 pm, Wednesday at Terry-Christie Funeral Home in Waterville. Visitation will be at St. Monica and St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Blue Rapids on Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. A Rosary will be said at 7:00 pm, following the visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016 at St. Monica and St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Blue Rapids with Father Daniel Schmitz as the celebrant.
