Faye Jean Dean, age 92, of Waterville, passed away at Blue Valley Senior Living in Blue Rapids on Wednesday, June 15, 2016.

She was born November 4, 1923, in Goff, Kansas, the oldest child of William M. and Sarah Jones Gleason.

Faye Jean graduated from Goff High School and attended Kansas State College of Agriculture and Applied Science (KSU), graduating in 1945. She taught Vocational Homemaking for Barnes Rural School District 5, Waterville Public Schools, and Valley Heights U.S.D. 498, and took great pride in her 24-year teaching career.

On June 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to George Allen Dean, He passed away January 3, 1989.

Faye Jean was a member of Waterville United Methodist Church, Federated Womenʼs Club, and American Legion Auxiliary and served her church and community in many ways, including volunteering for the Bloodmobile and the Council on Aging. The Gleason family enjoyed playing cards. Faye Jean learned to play bridge at age 10 and enjoyed it well into her 80s; she loved a game of pitch with her family and taught several grandchildren to pay Rummy. She was an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress and cook who enjoyed trying new recipes. You could find her cheering on her Kansas grandsons at their athletic events and hosting the Minnesota grandchildren during the summer. In her later years she delighted in spending time with all of her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

She is survived by son Richard Dean (Janis) of Washington, Kansas, and daughter Deborah Boatman (Lawrence) of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She leaves 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers: William Gleason of Seneca, Kansas; Alvin Gleason (Lilah) of Frankfort, Kansas; and Stephen Gleason (Nancy) of Frankfort, Kansas; nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and brother, Michael Gleason.

Services are planned for 10:30 am, Friday, July 8, 2016, at the United Methodist Church in Waterville with Pastor Debby Dick officiating. Congregational hymns are “Hymn of Promise”, “O God Our Help in Ages Past” and “I’ll Praise My Maker While I’ve Breath”, Beverly Hedke is the organist. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Waterville.
